BassoonThis bassoon has a standard key system. The serial number on the boot cap is 90xx, and the serial number on the top of the boot joint under the strap hook is 196xx. Everything else is the same, and by same I mean that if I added a high d key to my bassoon they would be identical twins, right down to the wood grain, key-guards, key hinges, and logo on the bell. It is an almost exact carbon copy of this horn ( for sale schreiber2.htm) except mine is only keyed to high c. Not actually a bassoon maker themselves, but providing a catalog of descriptions of eight different makers with fine graphics of those instruments. Less-expensive models are also made of materials such as polypropylene and ebonite, primarily for student and outdoor use.
I have an old Schreiber bassoon that I bought off of Craigslist a while ago that I practice at home on and I'm just curious as to what model it is and how it fares against a standard like the fox Renard series of horns. A modern beginners bassoon is generally made of maple, with medium-hardness types such as sycamore maple and sugar maple preferred.
